For the fourth year in a row, radio staion Star 105.5 held it’s “Take A Stand For Turning Point” 36 hour radiothon. One of the highlights of the event was race car champion Jessica Brannam showing up to greet fans and help build interest in Turning Point.
Brannam has been a supporter of Turning Point for many years and looks forward to attending the radiothon. This year she brought her race car along with her to the event. “The kids just loved sitting in my car and pretending they were driving” Brannam said. Jessica also signed special limited edition 2009 “Take A Stand For Turning Point” hero cards for all her fans who showed up. “I was very suprised to see how many of my fans showed up” Brannam went on to say.
For the past four years Jessica has been involved with Turning Point. In fact, she has been supporting Turning Point even before the shelter was officialy open in 2007. Jessica donates all the money she wins from racing. To date, she has donated well over $2000.
McHenry County Turning Point is an organization that provides shelter and support for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. They also provide counseling, legal advice and support groups for the victims.
Each year Star 105.5 dedicates 36 hours of radio time to help support Turning Point. This year, during the radiothon, nearly $70,000 was collected.
Turning Point Events Coordinator, Joe Kvidera said, “One thing to remember is that while the Radiothon is 36 hours, Turning Point is 24/7/365! Even during “Take a Stand,” staff and volunteers were answering crisis calls, families were living in the shelter, and victims were getting the help they need to end the violence in their homes. It is never too late to help them and “Take a Stand for Turning Point”!
