I was really excited about tonight's race. The Kenosha County fair was going on right next
door to the race track, which meant the stands at the race track would be packed. Also,
I won the feature the last time we raced here.
The track was not in very good condition because of all the rain we had, but I knew the
grounds crew would do a good job getting it race ready.
Heat Race:
Since it took so long to get the track ready, everyone was getting anxious to get racing.
I started the race in 6th place. I was ready when the green flag waved to start the race.
My car took off like a rocket!
The car felt great. I was able to easily pass one car after another. By lap three I was in
the lead and running away with the race. I went on to take yet another heat race win.
Feature Race:
Since I won my last race here I had moved up from 4th to 3rd in the season points
standings. I knew it was very important for me to build on that momentum and keep
charging hard. I was on a mission!
I started the race in the middle of the pack. Quickly, I moved my way up to 4th place. My
car was by far the fastest on the track. Just as I was making a pass on 3rd and 2nd place,
the caution came out and I had to give the spots back.
The race was getting towards the end and I knew I did not have much time to make my
move to the lead. When the race restarted I entered turn one hard on the gas. The 3rd
place car was driving where I wanted to be so I had to move up the track to get around
him. When I did this, I hit a slick spot on the track and my car spun around.
The two cars behind me saw what happened and went around me. The third car in line
was not so lucky, and neither was I. He hit me at full speed. I have had wrecks before and
even flipped my car, but nothing ever felt as hard as this impact. The crash damaged my
car to severely to continue. I was officially scored as finishing 15th.
I hate for this to happen, especially for my crew. They work so hard to give me a fast car
and I let the race track get the better of me. I guess that’s racing.
