SYCAMORE SPEEDWAY
SYCAMORE, IL
5-9-09

Sycamore Speedway is not one of my favorite tracks. In fact, most drivers don’t like
racing there. It is a one lane track and just barely wide enough for two cars. I will
say, it is very fast and that part is exciting. Also, it is always smooth which is usually
not the case when you race on dirt. The worst part about racing at Sycamore Speedway
is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to pass on this track. More on that later.

Qualifying:
17 cars lined up for qualifying. As I sat in line waiting for my turn to “race” the clock,
I could not believe how fast the times were compared to previous times we raced there.
I went out on the track for my turn and my car felt great! I was able to stand on the
gas all the way around the track. What a rush! My car was stable and never lost traction
even once.
I knew I had a great run, but I had no idea I was not only the fastest qualifier, but also
set a new track record.  I watched, somewhat nervously, as the rest of the drivers made
their runs. Nobody was able to best my time. Unfortunately, that is where the good
news ended.

Heat Race:
Sycamore Speedway rules say that the faster drivers have to start in the back. Like I
said, bad news. Remember  what I said earlier about passing on this track?
IMPOSSIBLE!
I started the heat race in 9th place. I was able to get by a few cars and ended up
finishing in 5th.

Feature Race:
I am not sure why we even did a heat race since the results in that race meant nothing.
They made me start in the rear again because I was the fastest qualifier. Oh well, time
to get to work. My car felt great, but there was so much traffic holding me up. I finished
the race in 7th place. Not the result I wanted, but not to bad considering we had 17 cars
entered and I started last, especially on this track!
